It’s always dangerous to highlight the things we love in the Best of Baltimore issue; inevitably, they get just a little
too popular. But the brunch they serve at Roland Park’s neo-Mexican restaurant, Loco Hombre, is just too good for us to keep to ourselves.
First of all, the folks at Loco Hombre understand two important truths about brunch: It’s a sleeping-late kind of thing (Loco Hombre’s brunch menu is available from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m.) and it’s not just a Sunday kind of thing (brunch is offered Saturdays too). And then there’s the food itself: yummy, filling, and reasonably priced. A friend of ours routinely makes a production out of choosing between her two favorite dishes (“Should I get the corn cakes . . . or the huevos rancheros?”), but there are plenty of other treats on the menu, including Plato Eduardos (scrambled eggs full of onions, peppers, tomatoes, and cheese and topped with shredded crisp tortillas, accompanied by spicy hash browns) and the Plato Loco Hombre (poached eggs, tomatoes, and cheese, plus the aforementioned hash browns).
The place is crammed with tables, and we’ve noticed the occasional long wait for a seat. In the restaurant’s favor, however, the service is generally attentive, and the Loco’s atmosphere is festive (although we’ve heard that Gipsy Kings tape enough for a while, thank you very much).
