Best Gay Bar
1722 on Saturday Nights
1722 N. Charles St., 727-7431
Now 1722, an after-hours bar, isn’t a gay bar, but on Saturday night the crowd is predominantly gay, drunk, and ready to dance. Around 3 a.m., most of the people who haven’t had enough at the Hippo or Allegro show up at 1722—which serves no alcohol, though patrons may bring their own—to dance into the wee hours of Sunday morning. And unlike at the Hippo, where people show off their new haircuts and dance to bad music, and the Allegro, which features good music but is like dancing in your aunt’s club cellar, 1722’s small dance floor and cramped rooms are filled with people who have let their hair down and are ready to party. It isn’t always pretty, but 1722 can be a lot of fun.
