Best Place to Buy Beer on Sunday

Racers Café

7732 Harford Road, (410) 665-6000

Posted 9/22/2004

On Sundays when all the liquor stores are closed, a six-pack of Yuengling can be had for $8 in pretty much any bar around town. If that’s fine with you, then there’s no sense driving up to Racers in Hamilton. But if you’ve got a Sunday dinner party to go to—and who remembers to pick up booze the day before?—or you want something more than good ol’ American lager, it’s worth the trip to this tavern popular for its nightly microbrew specials. Racers’ carry-out has it all, from Belgian lambics to big bottles of stout with labels made on the brewmaster’s laptop, and a decent selection of wine, too. If you’re gonna thumb your nose at the blue laws by drinking something you enjoy—not something you’ll endure because the rules are different on the Christian Sabbath—this is the place to go.
