Overlea Diner

Best Diner: Overlea Diner

6652 Belair Road, (410) 254-8356

When Hemingway wrote about his clean, well-lighted place, he did not mention pancakes. If he had been more of a pancake kind of guy, things might have turned out differently for old Ernest, particularly if he had enjoyed his cakes at the Overlea Diner. This is very much a neighborhood joint, but it is also the perfect diner: sparklingly clean, with friendly, solicitous waitresses and inexpensive food that just happens to be marvelous. Breakfast is best—crisp golden home fries, prompt refills on coffee—but lunch and dinner offer solid diner fare like meat loaf, BLTs and thick, thick shakes. Truly a movable feast.
