Best Latino Restaurant: La Guadalupana
500 S. Wolfe St., (410) 276-2700
There are dozens of small, casual Latino restaurants cropping up all over Baltimore, but especially in the Upper Fells community, where many Mexican, Salvadoran, and Ecuadoran nationals make their home. This year we went with La Guadalupana because of the atmosphere as much as the food. Lunchtimes fill up the family-run place; gaggles of young men drink Coronas, while staffers serve a tender and well-seasoned carne asada, shrimp in crema, and all the $1 pork tamales you can handle. Don’t be fooled by lard-free “fresh Mex” imitations: This place serves up real Mexican tacos and enchiladas at affordable prices.
