Naming someplace the best Chinese restaurant in Baltimore is something of a backhanded compliment; it’s like being called the smartest kid on the short bus. For years there was a dearth of truly decent Chinese chow in and around the city, but now we have Chinatown Café. The tanks of live fish, eel, and crabs at the restaurant’s entrance are the first clue that this isn’t the overcooked, MSG-laden glop that is the sad local standard. Inside, the menu is full of dim sum treats and authentic dishes made from sparkling fresh ingredients, some of which, you may remember, greeted you at the front door.
