Pete’s Grille is the kind of place that makes you want to cry. Giant pancakes (get ‘em with blueberries), stuffed-with-stuff omelets, almost too frequently refilled coffee (it’s good coffee), the best home fries in town, and it’s all cheap. A great mix of neighborhood folks and university students crowd the counter at this Waverly mainstay, talk over everything, and trade insults with co-owner/chief cook Lou Sharkey. And, an honest-for-goodness Real American Hero, Michael Phelps, downs thousands and thousands of calories here almost every day. If only there were a gold medal for scrapple consumption. . . .
