Falkenhan's Hardware

3401 Chestnut Ave., (410) 235-7771

Posted 9/19/2001

We're lucky we can recognize a screwdriver, let alone distinguish a slotted from a Phillips head. But we've got some pretty industrious friends who have bought houses cheap and totally overhauled them themselves, and they tip their hammers to Falkenhan's Hardware in Hampden. The small basement-level shop, with its unassuming white siding exterior, doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's crammed full of every conceivable hardware item. Despite the cluttered appearance, the staff can find anything you need in an instant. Falkenhan's has all modern hardware supplies and a knowledgeable and patient staff, and it also offers parts for those odd-looking appliances and fixtures found in your average 100-year-old rowhouse. One friend became a Falkenhan's enthusiast when he found covers for old push- button light switches and a replacement tank for a turn-of-the-century toilet. Try snagging one of those at Home Depot.
