Nina's Alterations
804 Ingleside Ave., Catonsville, (410) 744-2559
We scouted all over Baltimore for an alterations expert who could handle formalwear, work clothes, and, especially, casual duds with equal aplomb. (We were really turned off when one pricey tailor balked at nipping and tucking our funkified, if ill-fitting, play gear.) Seamstress Nina Caronna, the owner and proprietor of Nina's Alterations in Catonsville, is a longtime vet of the stitch scene. She's worked in the area for 17 years (and been at her current shoe box-sized location for nine), and she understands the importance of a properly fitted garment. She and husband/shop fixture Ettore are from Italy, the mecca for the fashion-conscious, where a tailored fit is always in style. Her prices are moderate, and she can make speedy alterations for folks on the go. Occasionally, she can just eyeball a frock in need of modification instead of breaking out the measuring tape. Risky, sure--but so far, she's never let us down.
