Maybe it's a pain in the ass to get a permit for it, but for whatever reason, patio drinking is hard to come by in Baltimore, particularly in areas where you actually want to drink outside. The downtown corner of Pratt and Cathedral has always been an abrupt refuge of sidewalk boozin' with the Wharf Rat-cum-Pratt Street Ale House and its immediate neighbor, the Nest. The place feels more casual, homey, and, well, tavern-like than its neighbor; you can imagine the place has some regulars. Drinks were cheap enough: we handled a couple of domestic pitchers relatively painlessly (financially, anyhow) at $12 per and nommed on typical bar food (mozzarella blocks and crab dip, both less than $10). We were mostly on the patio, but noted the bar's nice, open interior was not marred to all hell with televisions--for a sports bar, anyhow.
