Don't get us wrong: Mastellone's makes some superb made-to-order subs. It's just that sometimes we like to treat the place as a one-stop gluttony shop for weekend DIY subs at home. Start with either sub rolls (90 cents each) or a ciabatta loaf ($4.50), both fresh baked and, if you're lucky, right-out-of-the-oven hot. Then choose some deli meats. We dine on the swine, so it's a super thinly sliced quarter pound each of lean capicola ($7.99/pound), pancetta ($9.97/pound), and the heavenly prosciutto ($19.99). (A quarter pound each is perfect for two overstuffed subs with some to spare.) Dress the bread with lettuce, tomato, and mayo, of course, but we also like to add some of Mastellone's olive spread ($4.99 for eight ounces) on one side for a fresh dash of tanginess with every bite. You can add cheese if you need, but pork this tasty really doesn't need it. Now cut in half and settle in for a nice afternoon of watching the Ravens lose.
