Cannily catering to closing-time drunk munchers of drinky Fells Point by staying open until 3 a.m., Hot Tomatoes is short on ambiance but long on friendly service and value, providing a highly accurate simulacrum of the elusive "NY Style" pizza we're always hunting in Baltimore. For a quick bite, order an ever-so-thin slice ($2.40, additional toppings 50 cents) or, in our case, two slices, one generously topped with ham and pineapple, the other with nice fresh mushrooms. That said, the real deal for us was the large pepperoni pie ($14), a pleasant but not overloaded topping-to-cheese-to-sauce ratio on a nicely turned crust, thin all the way out to the crispy edge, filling out a box the size of a small card table, which made us a big hit at the party we brought it to.
