Why We Go: Kumari is a convenient lunch spot for midtown and downtown workers, with its perch above Madison and Charles. The Indian buffet--cheap and easy--is a staple for working lunches. Kumari often nails it, with great service, fresh offerings on the warming table, and a rotating cast of standards.
What We Eat: Whatever they bring out--daal, saag paneer, panak paneer. They get extra points for bringing fresh naan instead of dumping it in a chafing pan.
What We'd Change: Turn up the spice temperature. We can handle it. And throw more northern Indian staples into the buffet.
