More on Red Emma's Bookstore and Coffeehouse.

Posted 3/5/2008

Why We Go: It's good cheap, vegan-friendly lunch grub made by radicals--or sympathizers--in a space stuffed with intriguing reading material.

What We Eat: Try the Aztlan. It sounds simple--like you feel dumb for not making it at home%u2013but a bagel slathered in cheese, guac, and tomato is all the better with a touch of Mao love love. And, short of making a Whole Foods run, Red Emmas is one of few places we know in town to find a good vegan pastry.

What We'd Change: Sometimes it seems DIY to the point where you might be better off climbing behind the counter to make your own sandwich.
