Why We Go: Pastries and a counter staff that is patient as we hem and haw over our choices.

What We Eat: We devour--albeit daintily--macaroons, by the handful, in hazelnut, lemon, and cinnamon. (Traditional chocolate and vanilla are good, too.) Where other bakeries toss a roasted nut on a croissant and call it a day, Patisserie Poupon's flavored croissants are filled with large hunks of the their namesake nuts; we can't stay away from the almond or walnut.

What We'd Change: The small storefront has minimal seating, and we'd like a little bit more space.
