Why We Go: Red Star is a bit off Fells Point's main drag, tucked away as it is near the rear entrance to the venerable Dead End Saloon, whose old-shoe crowd and superb homely grub form a nice cultural counterpoint to the better-heeled, finer-fed (and younger) gang at Red Star, where the menu is more for gourmands.

What We Eat: The Bucca (a grilled sandwich stuffed with chicken, prosciutto, mozzarella, and spinach) and the bianci pizza (caramelized onions, roasted garlic, mozzarella, and artichokes), because they're good, delicious dishes for under $10, though Red Star's specials have hit the mark at times, too.

What We'd Change: The service for bar-side diners needs a little improvement.
