After seeing a preview of The X-Files: I Want to Believe at Landmark Harbor East last Wednesday, we braved a torrential downpour to get the hell away from the supernatural and drove to the Curb Shoppe, a divey little joint in Mount Washington that couldn't be further away in temperament from Whole Foods. We ran in soaking wet 10 minutes (bar time) late for Burger Night, but no matter, the bartender took our toppings, temperature, and beer requests and handed us a bottle of Bud and a Coors Light on draft. "Eat the Rich" played on the jukebox, the O's were rained out on the television, and our juicy, fat burgers arrived on a kaiser roll with potato chips and a dill pickle spear on the side. Thick and meaty, they sent rivers of ketchup, mustard, and mayo running down our fingers--a steal to home at $5.50 from 4-10 p.m. Wednesdays, and that's with a domestic beer. We left as soon as the rain let up outside, but we'll go early another Wednesday, keep drinking, and maybe play a little pool.
