Lexington Market, 400 W. Lexington St.

On the next weekday afternoon when you need a little snack to survive the day because you skipped lunch, head over to the Catoctin Popcorn stall at Lexington Market and take a gander at the many, many varieties of sweet and savory treats offered. The Frederick-based business stocks the usual coated-kernel treats--buttered, cheddar, caramel, chocolate, etc.--but also goes a bit further into the exotic and unusual, such as popcorn coated with white chocolate, jalapeno cheddar, and old English toffee. We've sampled three flavors so far. Both the pilgrim's pumpkin pie and peanut butter cluster ($3.00 and $3.99 for 8 oz., respectively) were too sweet for this afternoon's cravings, but Chesapeake crab corn ($1.79, 1.5 oz.) totally delivered. Salty, aromatic, and with a spicy finish, this flavorful treat is exactly what the taste buds needed to prime the tank for happy hour.
