More on Roland Park Bagel Co..

By Bret McCabe | Posted 8/19/2009

Early risers who live in areas without Sunday morning necessities a mere walk away often find themselves in a pickle: When venturing out to nab a $6 copy of The New York Times you wouldn't mind grabbing a coffee and a little nosh-y item, but you don't feel like committing to a full-fledged breakfast. Fortunately, the Roland Park Bagel Company opens at 7 a.m. on weekends, and while the décor is a little corporate-hotel and this locally owned business--part of the Crazy Man Restaurant Group that owns Miss Shirley's and S'ghetti Eddies--serves Bethesda's merely OK Quarternmaine coffee, the bagels are freshly made, the service prompt and friendly, and you can sit alone without interruption. We went with a tasty pumpernickel bagel, lightly toasted (just enough to give the outside a crunch, but not enough to make the inside less chewy), with the veggie cream cheese, piquant raw onion, and tomato ($2.95, tomato 60 cents extra) and a small coffee ($1.25) to go with the main section and Week in Review.
