This natural/health foods and goods store, located in the strip mall across the street from the Timonium Fairgrounds where a big-box Giant recently opened, has always occupied a special place in the heart for its endlessly friendly staff, nice selection of natural skin-care products, and comforting stop for grab-and-go vegan/organic snacks in the York Road corridor of fast-food deep-fried this and mass-produced that. But such quick-hit shopping stops never provided the opportunity to check out the Natural Brothers' located inside until recently. Our loss--in addition to a fabulous selection of made-to-order smoothies and fresh juices, the café offers a varied menu of vegan and vegetarian fare. And on a cold weekend afternoon, the grilled avocado and cheese sandwich ($6.95) really hit the spot. Nice hunks of avocado, tomato, and roasted red peppers get topped with some melted Muenster cheese and gently pressed between two slices of grilled whole grain bread dressed with romaine and can't-believe-it's-not-mayo Veganaise. Paired with a nice cup of hot green tea ($1.95) and chased with a Garlic Xpress juice--an invigorating blend of carrots, celery, garlic, and parsley--you're more than ready to head back out into January's stiff winds.
