Eat Drink Man Woman
Comparisons of this movie with The Joy Luck Club are as inevitable as they will be misguided. This breezy Chinese comedy about an aging master chef and his three single daughters, written and directed by Ang Lee, has an affable, off-hand style as it tackles food, sex, and the gender gap. There’s none of the Sturm und Drang of The Joy Luck Club. You’ll leave the theater craving Chinese food and whispering sweet nothings to your viewing companion (here’s hoping there was some prior attraction). In Chinese with English subtitles.
