Valentine's Day fodder that pretends to be a witty and fresh take on the same ol' story line--and succeeds for a while--but then falls back on mind-numbing clichés. Andie (Kate Hudson), a "journalist" at a Cosmo-type magazine, pitches a story to her strict boss (Bebe Neuwirth) on how she will find and drive away a guy in 10 days. Ben (Matthew McConaughey), an adman, wants to pitch the new campaign for one of the world's largest diamond companies--the rub being that he has to make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Every member of the audience with an IQ of at least 50 already knows the outcome, so the enjoyment of watching the movie must come from the execution of the tired plot, which works beautifully for the first hour but tragically crashes and burns at the end. Save your money for a Blockbuster night.
