Actor-producer Sandra Bullock buries her starry snout in the sequel trough for a second helping of Miss Congeniality—since she didn’t burst into flames after Speed 2: Cruise Control, who can blame her, right? So yeah, surprise, assuming you dug on the original, Miss Congeniality, it’s less than all that, with a few self-deprecating laughs, drag-queen moments, and a l’il bit too many of those snort-laffs from Sandy. She must be thinkin’ about the trough. Anyway, bright spots are the chemistry between Bullock’s now declawed FBI agent character and her butch bodyguard Sam Fuller (Regina King) and the always-game Diedrich Bader (Office Space, The Drew Carey Show), who gay-gay-gays it up as style consultant (that’s the Fabulous part) for Bullock’s special agent Gracie Hart, who is now too famous to do anything but public relations for the Bureau, even though she wants to save her pal Cheryl Frazier (Heather Burns) and beauty pageant emcee Stan Fields (William Shatner) from kidnappers. Oh, and Regis Philbin gets punched in the nuts.
