James Franco stars as Richard Gere and Tyrese Gibson stars as Louis Gossett Jr. in this long-awaited sequel to An Officer and a Gentleman. Oddly enough, Disney isn’t marketing it as such—which might have something to do with the fact that Officer was dark, full of boozing and suicide. Then again, Annapolis has booze and suicide, too—or at least a suicide attempt: A fat kid jumps out a third-story window, if that even qualifies. The real question: How did this get made without anyone realizing it was Disney-fying Taylor Hackford? In case you missed the original: Boy (Franco) whose pa doesn’t believe in him lands an unlikely spot in an elite naval training center (the U.S. Naval Academy). Girl (Jordana Brewster) helps Boy realize the chip on his shoulder is his biggest problem. Drill Sergeant Cliché (Gibson) breaks him down and rebuilds him as a man because, sniffle, he believes in said Boy.
