Tuesday, July 11

1:50 a.m. Darrell Robinson, a 21-year-old African-American man, was standing near the intersection of Calhoun and Presstman streets in Sandtown-Winchester with a bunch of people when an unknown man approached. The man fired several shots, yelled “you bitches,” fired again, and then left. Robinson was hit several times in the upper body. His father, who also lives in the area, heard the shots and found his son lying in the street. He was trying to help him when police arrived, but Robinson died at Maryland Shock Trauma Center 40 minutes later.

Wednesday, July 12

3:39 a.m. The next day, a man was found at a gas station in the 5300 block of York Road. He had been stabbed in the stomach, back, and arm about a block away, in the 500 block of Sheridan Avenue in the Woodbourne-McCabe neighborhood, but managed to run to the gas station before collapsing. The man died at Sinai Hospital two hours later. Police are waiting until his family has been notified to release his name. This is the third murder in the 500 block of Sheridan in as many months.

5:30 p.m. That evening, police found Charles Harris, a 19-year-old African-American man, lying between two vehicles in the 500 block of North Fremont Avenue in Harlem Park. He had been shot in the head and died the next day at Shock Trauma.

Thursday, July 13

5:23 p.m. Police were called about a body found in a house in the 1100 block of Argyle Avenue in Upton. When they arrived they found Jeremy Jennings, a 20-year-old African-American from Baltimore County, lying dead in the middle of a room. He had been shot twice in the head, once above the ear and once in the jaw, with a small caliber gun. This is the fourth murder in Upton this year.

Friday, July 14

4:15 a.m. Gurnie Edwards III, a 46-year-old African-American man, was found shot in the head in front of his home in the 1100 block of East Biddle Street in Oliver. He died at Johns Hopkins Hospital at 4:41 a.m.

11:15 a.m. An employee of an apartment building in the 400 block of West Franklin Street near Lexington Market smelled a foul odor on the first floor of the building. He figured out which apartment it was coming from and entered to check on the tenant who lived there. He found a woman lying on the floor, her body badly decomposed. An autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed. Police are waiting until they have notified her family to release her name. This is the 12th homicide in the Central Police District this year. The total for 2005 was 14.

Saturday, July 15

12:29 a.m. Police found Jamie Mills, a 33-year-old African-American man from Pennsylvania, in Maceo’s Lounge in the 1900 block of North Monroe Street. He had been shot repeatedly in the head. He died half an hour later at Shock Trauma.

1:38 a.m. An hour later, Dion Williams, a 15-year-old African-American male, was shot several times in the head and body in the 2700 block of East Monument Street in McElderry Park. He died shortly after he arrived at Hopkins Hospital. He was five blocks from home.

Sunday, July 16

11:57 a.m. Just before noon a man who police haven’t been able to identify, was chased down the 900 block of North Collington Avenue in Middle East by someone who was shooting at him. He was hit repeatedly and fell to the sidewalk. He died at Hopkins Hospital at 12:27 p.m.

10:48 p.m. Richard Smith, a 34-year-old African-American man, was found lying under a parked car in the 3600 block of Cottage Avenue in Park Circle. He had been shot. He died at Sinai Hospital at 11:23 p.m. This is the second week this year in which there have been 10 homicides. The first was the week of Jan. 9-15.
