Murders This Year: 179

Due to an early deadline for the holiday weekend, this week’s column only covers murders between Aug. 28 and Sept. 1.

The woman found dead in the 2500 block of Jefferson Street on Aug. 25 has been identified as Juliet Robinson, a 35-year-old African-American woman.

Several 2006 homicide cases have been closed in recent months, dating back as far as January of this year. On June 27, Steven Fleary, a 54-year-old African-American man, was arrested in New York City. He was transported to Baltimore July 7 and charged with the murder of Deangelo Hunter.

Ray Lucky Williams, a 44-year-old African-American man, was arrested at a drug-treatment center in Rockville on June 28 for the murder of Charles Sparrow. Levar Shedrick, a 21-year-old African-American man who was already at the Baltimore City Detention Center, was charged with the murder of James Wright on July 3. Thomas Taylor, a 25-year-old African-American, was arrested July 14 for the murder of Joseph Miller.

Raymond Davis, an 18-year-old African-American man, was already at Central Booking on unrelated charges on July 20 when he was charged with shooting and killing Cynthia Riley.

The next day, Demetri Greer, an 18-year-old African-American man, was arrested for fatally shooting 15-year-old Dion Williams. George Jenkins, a 23-year-old African-American man from Harwood, was arrested July 19 and charged with killing Demithrius Spears.

On July 22 Victor Banks, a 30-year-old African-American man, was arrested for the murder of Lynn Lettley Jr.

A second person was arrested for the murder of Russell Duckworth: Mark Anthony Brooks, a 41-year-old African-American man, was arrested July 26. Natasha Sarchiapone, a 25-year-old Caucasian woman, was arrested earlier in the month.

On July 29 police arrested Larry McMillian, a 21-year-old African-American man, for the murder of Shawn Ruffin. Jerry Anderson, a 20-year-old African-American man, was arrested Aug. 1 in Chester, on the Eastern Shore, for shooting Elroy Long in the back.

Dennis Wallace, a 54-year-old Caucasian man, was arrested Aug. 7 for killing William Gibson in 1983.

Annette Marie High, a 47-year-old African-American woman, was arrested Aug. 10 for the beating death of 1-year-old Kayah Jackson. The same day, Davon Pearson, an 18-year-old African-American, was arrested at the courthouse in Brooklyn while appearing at traffic court. He has been charged with murdering Howard Jones.

Eric Hicks, a 21-year-old African-American man, was arrested Aug. 28 for beating and stabbing Kimberly Skyers to death.

With these arrests, 76 of this year’s 179 homicides have been closed. Of the 75 suspects arrested, 51 of them were under the age of 30, including five 15-year-olds.

Wednesday, Aug. 30

12:50 a.m. Police found Rickie Tinsley, a 21-year-old African-American male, lying in the 500 block of Pontiac Avenue in Brooklyn. Blood was coming from his right armpit. He had been shot. He died at Harbor Hospital at 1:20 a.m. Police say Tinsley was riding his bike in the block when someone shot him. He got off his bike and tried to run away, but he collapsed.
