The Norwegian government has tightened oversight over the slaughter of sheep after an increase in radioactivity found in herds in the upland part of the country. It’s believed the sheep ate mushrooms contaminated with fallout from the Chernobyl disaster that happened 20 years ago; mushrooms absorb radiation more easily than other fodder, and unusually wet weather led to a bumper crop of radioactive fungi.
