Collapse

Frank Klein

By Edward Ericson Jr. | Posted 3/7/2007

What: Three townhouses under construction

Where: 3412-3428 Fleet St.

When: Sunday, Feb. 18

Why: House framing could not withstand strong winds

Who owns: Canton Heights LLC

Canton Heights is partially owned by Patricia A. Massey, whose company bought the land for $1.2 million in 2005, and who says the site will include 17 townhouses selling for $550,000. After the collapse, Massey says she got an engineer's OK to reassemble the fallen structures and by a few days later had rebuilt the structures. "We're up to the third floor," she said on Feb. 27. Massey says the first townhouses will be completed by early May.

The Sun reported this collapse on Feb. 19 as occurring on the 3500 block of Fleet Street. The addresses are not listed on the State Department of Assessment and Taxation, but city permit records show permits pulled for townhouse construction--including elevators--beginning on Jan. 13, 2006, for 3420-3428 Fleet. The company recently asked for a time extension for those permits.
