As the Nose was verifying information on state Sen. Lisa A. Gladden's financial-disclosure form, which legislators are required to file with the Maryland State Ethics Commission, we discovered that the 41st District Democrat has a doppelgänger.
Turns out there appears to be another Lisa A. Gladden, just about Sen. Gladden's age, living in Windsor Mill, in western Baltimore County. That Lisa Gladden resides in the 10th District, the domain of state Sen. Delores G. Kelley. Her home is just a few miles up Liberty Heights Avenue/Liberty Road from Gladden's actual home address (in her own 41st District), which she shares with her mother in a leafy enclave of brick single-family homes and duplexes on White Chapel Road.
City Paper visited this other Lisa Gladden's home, which was built in 2006 and is mortgaged for more than $500,000. We left a business card with a young man who answered the door but did not receive a return phone call.
"It's no relation to me," says Sen. Gladden. "It's been a bane of my existence. We even have the same middle initial. She was born like a year after me, or a year before me."
Gladden says she thinks the other Lisa A. Gladden works for Baltimore City. She cites an 11-year-old Sun column by Gregory Kane in which a "tall, slender" Lisa Gladden complained to city officials about loutish behavior of football fans around the old Memorial Stadium, where that Gladden lived at the time. According to Kane's column, the other Gladden is an ex-Marine and correctional officer who moved to Baltimore from the Boston area.
"Sometimes she giggles and calls me, `Hey, it's Lisa A. Gladden,'" Sen. Gladden says, adding that the two live close enough to each other that they even mix up their eyeglass prescriptions: "We both go to LensCrafters," she says.
