The man shot to death in the 5800 block of Edgepark Road in Loch Raven on March 26 has been identified as a 23-year-old African-American named Carlos Spence.

Monday, April 13

9 a.m. Russell Day, a 30-year-old Caucasian man, was shot in the left arm and side in the 2100 block of Christian Street near an elementary school in Carrollton Ridge. He died at an area hospital at 9:26 a.m. Three days later, police arrested three people for Day's murder: Davonne Sydnor, an 18-year-old African-American man; Kevin Ward, an 18-year-old African-American man; and Jermaine McCory, a 15-year-old African-American male. This is the second murder in Carrollton Ridge in two weeks.

Wednesday, April 15

12:56 p.m. Police discovered Harold Able Sr., a 63-year-old African-American man, slumped over in the driver's seat of his car, which was parked in the 1800 block of Aiken Street, a few blocks from the Eastside District Courthouse. He had been shot and was dead.

1:50 p.m. An hour later, Erksine Evans, a 28-year-old African-American man, was in front of his home in the unit block of Gorman Avenue near the West Baltimore MARC stop, talking to a friend. While he was chatting, someone came up and shot him repeatedly in the chest. Evans tried to run into his house, but collapsed on the walkway and died.

Saturday, April 18

2:06 a.m. Ernesto Flores, a 23-year-old Hispanic man, was stabbed in the chest on North Clinton Street just off Baltimore Street in Baltimore-Linwood, a neighborhood just north of Highlandtown. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but was dead on arrival. Flores is the second Hispanic man murdered this year.

6:45 a.m. Calvin Hayes, a 75-year-old African-American man, was in a blue Cadillac in the 2100 block of North Wolfe Street by Clifton Park when he was shot repeatedly in the upper body. Hayes is the sixth person over the age of 50 murdered this year.


Robert Lee Murphy, a 22-year-old have African-American man, was charged with the murder of Stephen Mauk, a 47-year-old Caucasian cab driver from Germantown, on March 26. Mauk was found shot to death in his cab on Jan. 26 in the 200 block of North Bond Street.

On April 14, Dontae Preston, a 30-year-old African-American man, was charged with the murder of Keon Barnes, a 35-year-old African-American man. Barnes was shot to death on the steps of a home in the 1900 block of North Pulaski Street on March 14.

Ronald Cox, a 42-year-old African-American man, was sentenced to life in prison on April 14. Cox shot Todd Dargan, a 25-year-old African-American man, in the head on Dec. 28, 2007, in the 900 block of North Caroline Street. Police found Cox shortly after the shooting when they stopped his car because he was not wearing his seatbelt. Police searched the car and found the gun used to kill Dargan in the trunk.

Lyndon Waddell, a 21-year-old African-American man, was arrested on April 16 for his alleged involvement in the Feb. 4 murder of David Wright, a 47-year-old African-American man. Waddell has been charged with robbery and assault. Gregory Riddick, an 18-year-old African-American man, and Brian Watkins, a 14-year-old African-American male, were charged earlier this month with murder and armed robbery for Wright's death. Wright was shot to death inside a home in the 1600 block of Gorsuch Avenue.

A Baltimore City Grand Jury indicted Craig Whitaker, a 20-year-old African-American man, on April 16 for first-degree murder. Whitaker is charged with the Feb. 22 murder of a 21-year-old African-American man in the 2400 block of Loyola Northway. The man was identified by the police as Raymond Williams, but according to the State's Attorney's Office his first name is Ramon. Whitaker has also been indicted for a domestic-violence incident at the same address five days earlier.

Tyrone Burris, a 23-year-old African-American man, was also indicted by the Baltimore City Grand Jury on April 16. Burris has been charged with shooting Hubert Dickerson, a 32-year-old African-American man, in the 2500 block of West Baltimore Street near the West Baltimore MARC station, killing him. According to the State's Attorney's Office, Burris killed Dickerson "over a debt."

On April 17, Bryant Williams, a 25-year-old African-American man, was convicted of the murder of Derius Harmon, an 18-year-old African-American male. Harmon was found dead in the 2200 block of Barclay Street; he had been shot once in the right eye. According to the State's Attorney's office, Harmon joined a gang that was affiliated with the Young Guerilla Family and the Black Guerilla Family. After joining, Harmon was deemed unsuitable for the gang because he was "slow" and was killed by fellow member Williams.
