Tuesday, June 2

6:20 a.m. Baltimore City Police were called by Anne Arundel County police to the scene of a homicide. The county police received a call for a shooting at 2:30 a.m. on Old Riverside Road at the city/county line in Brooklyn. Tony Geiger, a 41-year-old Caucasian man, had been shot in the head and was dead. Nearly four hours later, it was determined that his death actually occurred on the city side of the line, making Geiger's death a Baltimore City homicide. Geiger is the 10th white person murdered this year.

Wednesday, June 3

2:30 p.m. Anthony Benitez, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, was shot in the upper right shoulder in front of an apartment building in the 1400 block of Anglesea Street near the travel plaza in Southeast Baltimore. He died at an area hospital half an hour later. Benitez is the fourth Hispanic person murdered this year. Six Hispanic people were murdered in all of 2008, up from four in 2007.

Sunday, June 7

10:10 a.m. Police were called to check on Dana Richardson, a 44-year-old African-American man. Someone had knocked on his apartment door in the 900 block of Brooks Lane in Reservoir Hill, but Richardson, who was very ill, did not answer. Police entered the apartment and found Richardson lying in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed repeatedly in the back and was dead. Richardson is the 82nd African-American person murdered this year. His death also marks the seventh murder in the Central district, three of which took place in the last two weeks.

Updates

On May 25, police arrested Tavon Grey, a 26-year-old African-American man, for the murder of Eric Brown, a 20-year-old African-American man. Brown was shot in the head on Aug. 19, 2008 in the 1000 block of Edmondson Avenue in Harlem Park.

On May 27, a Baltimore City Grand Jury indicted Marquel Gaffney, a 16-year-old African-American male, for the murder of Alfred Smith, a 56-year-old African-American man. Smith was stabbed in the thigh on Appleton Street in Midtown-Edmondson on Sept. 26, 2007. Gaffney was 15 at the time of stabbing.

Also on the 27th, a grand jury indicted William Briscoe, a 27-year-old African-American man, for the murder of Dewayne Booker, a 20-year-old African-American man. Booker was shot n the head and body in the 1300 block of Bonaparte Avenue on April 1.

On June 1, police arrested Kimberly Moody, a 22-year-old African-American woman, for the murder of Sctario Tia Edwards, a 25-year-old African-American. Edwards was killed and two other women were injured after a dance-floor argument led to a shooting on March 7. Sharone Newton, a 34-year-old African-American woman from Randallstown, was also arrested for the homicide on March 20.

Steven Wynn, a 49-year-old African-American man, was convicted on June 3 of murder, robbery, car theft, and other charges for the death of Samuel Shufford, a 59-year-old African-American man. Shufford was discovered by police on Sept. 23, 2005 after he had not been seen for several days. Shufford was inside a home in the 2000 block of Ruxton Road. He had been beaten to death with a hammer. His car, wallet, and cell phone had been stolen. DNA evidence on the hammer and the victim's car, which was eventually located, matched Wynn.
