Monday, June 29

12:15 a.m. Just after midnight, police found a man sitting outside an SUV in the 3400 block of Fairview Avenue by Lake Ashburton. He had been shot repeatedly and died at a local hospital at 3:20 a.m. Police are waiting until the man's family has been notified of his death to release his name.

9:56 a.m. Later that morning, Tavon Walker, a 28-year-old African-American man, was shot numerous times in the 2100 block of Brighton Street near Carver Vocational-Technical High School. He died at an area hospital an hour later. This is the fourth murder in the Easterwood neighborhood this year.

Tuesday, June 30

12:20 a.m. Steven Wilson, a 24-year-old African-American man, was shot in the upper body in the 1600 block of East Eager Street near Johns Hopkins Hospital. He ran for 60 yards, then collapsed. Wilson died at a local hospital at 12:56 a.m.

11:40 p.m. Gerrod Finch, a 21-year-old African-American man, was in a car with his girlfriend in the 600 block of Wheeler Avenue. According to police, Finch started hitting his girlfriend, who grabbed a knife in the car and stabbed him once in the chest. Finch died at an area hospital half an hour later. The girlfriend has not been charged with a crime at this time, and police declined to release her name.

Friday, July 3

6:37 a.m. Julius Powell, a 23-year-old African-American man, died two and a half years after being shot in the neck. Powell was shot in the 2100 block of West Fairmount Avenue on Christmas Eve 2006 and has been under medical care since that time. He stopped breathing at an area nursing home and was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The next day the Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy. A projectile was removed from Powell's vertebrae; his death was ruled to be the result of complications tied to the 2006 shooting.

Updates

Terrance Mason, an 18-year-old African-American man, was arrested on June 29 for the murder of Tyrone Phillips. Phillips was the 19-year-old African-American male murdered in the 600 block of Tunbridge Road on June 18. Phillips was involved in a knife fight in Mid-Govans and was stabbed in the chest. A 16-year-old was also stabbed but survived.

Also on June 29, Gary Gibson, a 21-year-old African-American man, was arrested for the murder of Pierre Alford, a 25-year-old African-American man. Alford was shot in the head on June 16 in the 1900 block of Braddish Avenue.

Phillip Queen, a 29-year-old African-American man, pleaded guilty on June 30 to the murder of Jabari Stocks, a 3-year-old African-American boy. Queen was babysitting his girlfriend's sons on June 8, 2007 while she was working. He called her to tell her that the Stocks was not breathing. He claimed the boy had choked. The mother rushed home and took the Stocks to the hospital but he was dead. According to the autopsy, Stocks died from brain trauma consistent with being beaten, not from choking.
