Murders this Week: 5
Murders this Year: 153

Because of the Labor Day holiday, this week's column only covers homicides from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4. Any murders over the weekend will be addressed online at citypaper.com/news/murderink.asp. (The last two homicides in this column were added after we went to press. The numbers of murders for the week and the year have been updated as well.)

Tuesday, Sept. 1

12:57 a.m. Chris Hester, a 38-year-old African-American man, was shot numerous times in head in the 3000 block of Presstman Street near Gwynns Falls Park. He died at an area hospital two hours later.

4:05 p.m. That afternoon, two individuals were shot in the 1900 block of Fulton Avenue just off North Avenue. They were taken to a local hospital where Larry Daniels, a 32-year-old African-American man who had been hit in the neck, died. The other victim is in critical condition.

Friday, Sept. 4

1:18 a.m. An unidentified man was shot in the head in the 1600 block of Presstman Street in Sandtown-Winchester. He died at an area hospital at 2:15 a.m. This is the third murder on Presstman Street in eight days.

10 p.m. A 20-year-old African-American man walked into a fire house in the 4400 block of Pennington Avenue in Curtis Bay. He had been stabbed in the back. Shortly after he arrived, police got a call for a shooting in the 1600 block of Elmtree Street, about a block away. When police arrived, they found a crime scene that spanned several blocks, starting at a playground and winding through alleys. A fight between two large groups erupted at the playground and ended with David Hunt, a 23-year-old Caucasian man, being shot on Elmtree Street. The 20-year-old African-American man was stabbed during this incident but survived. Hunt died shortly after arriving at an area hospital.

11 p.m. Kevin Taylor, a 29-year-old African-American man, died at an area hospital. Taylor was shot in the head in the 4400 block of Pimlico Road in Central Park Heights on Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital and was not expected to live. On Sept. 8, police arrested Anthony Chapman, a 17-year-old African-American male who lives a few blocks from the scene of the shooting. According to police, Chapman confessed to killing Taylor.
