Murders this Year: 29

After six days without a murder, there was one homicide this week. As of March 15, there have been 14 fewer murders in 2010 than on the same date in 2009. This is a decrease of 32 percent.

Friday, March 12

4:20 p.m. In the middle of the afternoon, police were called to the 2600 block of North Calvert Street in Charles Village for a shooting. Donatello Fenner Jr., a 22-year-old African-American man, was lying in the alley behind the block, He had been shot numerous times throughout his body and died at a local hospital at 4:57 p.m.


On Mar. 9, Andre Robinson, a 26-year-old African-American man, pleaded guilty to the murder of Anthony Raney--identified by police as Anthony Rainer--a 25-year-old African-American man. Raney was shot in the left side on the 2000 block of Hoffman Street on Nov. 2, 2008. Robinson was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crime.

Eric Rose, a 23-year-old African-American man, was arrested on Mar. 9 for the murder of security guard James Ball, a 38-year-old African-American man. Ball tried to break up a fight in front of the Bank of America building at Baltimore and Light streets on Feb. 20 and was shot several times.

On Mar. 10, police arrested Desmond "Dazy" Sims, a 16-year-old African-American male, for the murder of Jeffery Ward, a 19-year-old African-American man. Ward was shot repeatedly in the head and body in the 3800 block of Oakford Avenue on Dec. 30, 2009.

Humphrey Johnson, a 36-year-old African-American man, was arrested on Mar. 10 for the murder of Qonta Waddell, a 24-year-old African-American man. Waddell was shot to death outside his mother's home in the 3100 block of Windsor Avenue on April 21, 2009. Sherman Anderson, a 33-year-old African-American man, was arrested on May 2, 2009, and charged with the murder as well, but all the charges against Anderson were dropped on Feb. 24.
