12:30 a.m. Andrew Copeland, a 16-year-old African-American male, was shot several times in the upper torso in the 1500 block of West Fayette Street, two blocks north of the H.L. Mencken House. He died at an area hospital at 1:15 a.m. Copeland is the second minor murdered in five days.
Tuesday, May 4
11:16 p.m. Jonathan Byrd, a 26-year-old African-American man, was shot repeatedly outside a bar in the 2100 block of Frederick Avenue in Carrollton Ridge. Someone drove him to a nearby hospital. Byrd died May 5 at 1:15 a.m.
Wednesday, May 5
12:45 p.m. David Beers, a 49-year-old Caucasian man, died at an area hospital. Beers was found lying in the street in the 1000 block of West Lexington Street near the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum on April 23. He had a head laceration and trauma to the body. This is the second murder in Poppleton in a week.
11:56 p.m.That night, an as-yet-unidentified man was discovered lying on the ground next to a bar in the 3700 block of South Hanover Street in Brooklyn. He was bleeding from his head and had trauma to his body. He died half an hour later at a local hospital.
Thursday, May 6
1:06 p.m. A woman called police and asked them to check on Betsy Riggin, a 29-year-old Caucasian woman. The woman was a friend and co-worker of Riggin, according to court documents. Riggin hadn't shown up for work that day and hadn't answered calls. Police and medical personnel entered Riggin's apartment in the 3200 block of The Alameda and found her dead under her bed. There was bruising to her stomach, arms, neck, and face. The autopsy revealed that Riggin had been strangled and that she was pregnant at the time of her death. The next day, police brought Andrew Jackson, a 29-year-old African-American man, in for questioning. According to charging documents, Jackson confessed to the murder. A Baltimore Sun article says that Jackson and Riggin, who met while Riggin was working at the city jail and Jackson was an inmate there, were dating and that he was the father of her unborn child.
Saturday, May 8
5:22 p.m. Police found a male lying in an alley behind the 500 block of North Collington Avenue in East Baltimore. He had been shot in the neck and was dead. Police are waiting until his family has been notified of his death to release his name.
10:24 p.m. Five hours later, two men were shot to death in a running car that was parked in the 900 block of North Hill Road in the Ednor Gardens-Lakeside neighborhood. One was shot multiple times, including a shot to the head. The other man was shot in the upper torso. Police are waiting until they've talked to the men's families to release their names.
