Most fairs feature the same wonderful amusements of summer: games of chance and skill, blow-up Spider-man and Hello Kitty prizes, lemonade, corn on a stick, the ferris wheel, horse racing, lotto, exhibition halls, prize-winning livestock, hot dogs, crab cakes, beer, bingo. And although the Maryland State Fair in Timonium will always be our favorite (Aug. 24-Sept. 3), here’s a list of other fairs to check out when you’re out beyond your own backyard. City Paper sizzlin’ hot tip: these babys take place later in the summer and into the fall so dress accordingly. (Motorhead tee always appropriate.)
