Exit 8
Hammonds Ferry Road, Linthicum
A bit further down the road, navigate for a parking spot in the sea of cars surrounding G and M Restaurant (804 N. Hammonds Ferry Road, Linthicum, [410] 636-1777), which serves what is quite possibly the largest crab cake in the greater Baltimore area. OK, size isn't everything, but this much lump meat, with so little filler and almost no shell, is the reason folks line up for these beauties. Save room for a gondola-sized éclair, with filling so rich it should be taxed.
A few doors down, you'll need to elbow your way through the hungry throng when your table is ready at the Olive Grove Restaurant and Lounge (705 N. Hammonds Ferry Road, Linthicum Heights, [410] 636-1385), monument to good things Italian. Pace yourself through the complimentary salad and breadsticks, then select one of the simple Italian dishes that are the best bets here, like cheese-filled spinach ravioli lapped with a delicate white sauce. For dessert, choose an imported sorbet frozen in a real fruit shell, a triple-layer mousse cake, or an Italian coffee. Turn over the car keys to a teetotaler, though, because after they fire your caffeine with Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlúa, and amaretto, you'll be lucky to leave the restaurant walking, much less driving.
