Exit 25

Charles Street, Towson / Lutherville

Posted 2/23/2000

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, there's That's Amore (720 Kenilworth Drive, Towson, [410] 825-5255). Actually, forget the pizza pie—come for family-sized plates of veal scallopine, lasagna, and (sometimes) ravioli. Southern Italian favorites dominate this pretty, airy restaurant, where enormous platters feed enormous crowds (or appetites). The grilled squid is a standout among the appetizers.

Performance art and dinner meet as one at the Japanese steak house Nichi Bei Kei (1524 York Road, Lutherville, [410] 321-7090). If you don't want Japanese steak, how about chicken, or shrimp, or lobster? Gather your group at a big table around a big grilling surface and watch as your very own chef slices, dices, tosses, and flings food onto plates, hands moving faster than your eyes. If you're lucky, your chef will have a touch of irony, which makes for a fun-filled evening.

Ocean Pride Restaurant (1534 York Road, Lutherville, [410] 321-7744) is a longtime York-corridor favorite, specializing in crab—steamed, caked, imperialed, or molded into an enormous crab fluff. The dining area is casual/nautical, and though you may be tempted by chicken and steak dishes, we bet you'll succumb to something from the briny deep. With a beer in one hand and a crab mallet in the other, you'll be the poster child for the Land of Pleasant Living.
