ATTRACTIONS
Brannock Maritime Museum, 210 Talbot Ave., Cambridge. While this museum claims to be dedicated to the maritime history of Dorchester County, its key attraction is really the oyster navy display. Yes, we said oyster navy. You didn't know oysters could fight?
Cambridge Lady Cruises, Cambridge Creek, (410) 221-0776. Here's an idea: Tell the special person in your life that you're taking him or her on a cruise, but then surprise them by saying, "Oh you thought it was a Caribbean cruise? No, no, silly--it's on the Choptank River!" Hey, it is a beautiful river.
Dorchester is full of bed and breakfasts, here's a list. Knock yourself out:
Glasgow Inn, 1500 Hambrooks Blvd., Cambridge, (410) 228-0575.
Cambridge House, 112 High St., Cambridge, (410) 221-7700.
Commodore's Cottage, 215 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, (410) 228-6938.
North Fork Bed and Breakfast, 6505 Palmers Mill Road, Hurlock, (410) 943-4706.
Tavern House, 111 Water St., Vienna, (410) 376-3347.
EVENTS
Antioch Peach Festival, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 9, Antioch United Methodist Church, (410) 228-4723. Doesn't the word "peach" just make your mouth water? If not, how about peach pie, peach cobbler, peach fritters, or peach ice cream? You should totally be drooling all over the paper by now.
Bay Country Festival, 6-11 p.m. July 2-5, Sailwinds Park, (410) 228-7762. It's time for fun on the Choptank River. This festival promises the usual food, games, and music that you find at most festivals, but they put a little bit of "Bay Country" into it.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
Blackwater Eagleman Triathlon, June 8, Great Marsh Park, (410) 964-1246. Free for spectators and you should definitely spectate this event. Can you say spectate? This swim/bike/run event promises lots of adorable athletes with the top finishers going on to the Ironman Triathlon World Championships. These people aren't messing around.
Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, , 2145 Key Wallace Drive, Cambridge, (410) 228-2677, blackwater.fws.gov/. Visit the Blackwaterestablished in 1933 as a refuge for migratory birdsfor all the neat birdies hanging out in all their different environments, from tidal marshes to freshwater ponds and evergreen forests to cropland. Just don't head to the visitors center cuz it's closed for renovations.
Sail Regatta, July 12-13, Cambridge Yacht Club, Choptank River, (410) 228-2141. Regatta is one of those words you love, but never get the chance to say. So put the word to good use by saying things like, "Oh, I can't. I'm going to the Regatta," or maybe, "Wanna come to the Regatta with me?"
SHOPPING
Dorchester Arts Center, 120 High St., Cambridge, (410) 228-7782. The craftmakers themselves are on hand to tell you about their creations if you buy them here.
