ATTRACTIONS

Crisfield Cruises and Ferryboats. We keep telling you this every damn year--take a boat ride while you are hanging out in Somerset County. Seriously. Call (410) 425-4471 for the Captain Jack or (410) 968-1118 for the Island Belle II, she'll take you to historic Smith Island.

Smith Island Cruises, (410) 425-2771, www.smithislandcruises.com/default.htm. Day cruises and night cruises. It don't matter, you're on a cruise.

Somers Cove Marina, Crisfield, (410) 968-0925, www.crisfield.net/marina.cfm. This place is like a one-stop water-fun-food stop. Seafood restaurants surround it, gift and antique shops are nearby, plus it's a marina with a protected harbor and tons of boats.

EVENTS

J.M. Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, 1-5 p.m. July 16, Somers Cove Marina, Crisfield, (410) 968-2500. All you can eat. Doncha just love those words? This event is recognized as one of Maryland's best seafood festivals. Go get a mallet and knock that crab open, baby.

National Hard Crab Derby and Fair, Aug. 29-31, Somers Cove Marina, Crisfield, (410) 968-2500. The question is: What isn't at this fair? They've got crab races, beauty pageants, cooking contests, a parade, a swim meet, seafood, and boat races. Seriously, this is gonna be one hell of a crab derby.

SPORTS AND RECREATION

Great Hope Golf Course, 8380 Crisfield Highway, Westover, (800) 537-8009. Described as one of the most beautiful golf courses on the Eastern Shore, it's understandable why it's named Great Hope. Right? Either that or the fact that it's only 45 minutes from Ocean City.

Jane's Island State Park, 26280 Alfred Lawson Drive, Crisfield, (410) 968-1565. This park is almost completely surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay. So, it's got tons of water activities, but also miles of isolated shoreline making it perfect for a fun, yet peaceful excursion.

SHOPPING

The Crab Place, 384 West Main St., Crisfield, (877) 328-2722, www.crabplace.com. This place sells all types of seafood including fresh hard and soft crabs, or just the crabmeat (if you are too lazy to crack them open yourselves), and crab cakes (if you're too lazy to cook them). And if you're too lazy to go there, you can order it all online and they ship it to your door.
