Historic St. Mary's City, (800) 762-1634. Hundreds of acres of Maryland's first capital have been preserved as an outdoor museum. Stop by the visitors center for a guided tour.
Patuxent River Naval Air Museum, Route 235 and Shangri-La Drive, Lexington Park, (301) 863-7418, www.patmuseum.com. America's only museum devoted to naval aviation includes 1,300 airplane models, early radar equipment, and, outside, 17 aircraft.
St. Clement's Island, routes 5 and 242, Colton's Point, (301) 769-2222. The Potomac River Museum and the adjoining Schoolhouse Children's Museum are a couple of the things to see on St. Clement's Island, where Maryland colonists first landed and Roman Catholics first held mass in the New World.
