Atlantic Hotel, 2 N. Main St., Berlin, (800) 814-7672, www.atlantichotel.com. No wonder Hollywood came to Berlin to film Runaway Bride--it's a picture-perfect American small town, and no visit is complete without a look-see at the grand old Atlantic Hotel.

Discoveries From the Sea Museum, 708 Ocean Highway, Fenwick Island, (302) 539-9366, free. Items collected from shipwrecks and shells collected from the water are on display here.

Julia A. Purnell Museum, 208 Market St., Snow Hill, (410) 632-0515. Julia Purnell lived on the Eastern Shore from 1842 to 1943 and spent part of her mor than 100 years collecting folk art, which is on display here along with Worcester County arts and crafts.

Nassawango Iron Furnace and Furnace Town, Snow Hill, (410) 632-2032. This bog-ore furnace and reconstructed 19th-century village on the Nassawango Creek host art, music, and living-history events during the summer. Call for details.

Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, Boardwalk and the inlet, Ocean City, (410) 289-4991. Besides displays about the U.S. Life-Saving Service, this museum has aquariums plus historical Ocean City photos.

Art's Alive, June 8-9, Northside Park, 127th Street bayside, Ocean City, (410) 250-0125, www.ococean.com. Art sure is alive at this annual juried exhibit and festival.

Jesus at the Beach Music and Ministry Festival, July 29-31, Ocean City, (410) 289-1296. Even if you're not going to this festival, you want to book your Ocean City vacation for this week, because it's a safe bet that the weather will be good while Jesus is there.

Mid-Atlantic Women's Motorcycle Rally, June 20-22, Francis Scott Key Motel, Ocean City, (410) 850-8528. Each summer women bikers collect in Ocean City to display their riding skills and parade along the boardwalk, all to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

SPORTS & RECREATION

Assateague State Park, Berlin, (410) 641-2120. Go for the wild horses. Stay for the swimming, fishing, backpacking, birding, and camping on Assateague's unspoiled beach.

Mellow Beach Watersports Center, 46th Street bayside, Ocean City, (410) 723-1144. Buy a sailboat or kayak here and learn how to use it too, or charter a trip on the 27-foot Toast II.

Ocean City Paintball Beach Attack, 12605 Ocean Gateway, West Ocean City, (410) 213-2500. A fun way to get even with friends and family.

White Marlin Open, 4-9 p.m. Aug. 5-9, Harbor Island Marina, 14th Street bayside, Ocean City, www.whitemarlinopen.com. Pull in the heaviest white marlin during this annual billfish tournament and take home $15,000. Or just spectate during the weigh-ins.

SHOPPING

Antiques by the Sea, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 9-11, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 12, Ocean City Convention Center, 40th Street bayside, (410) 289-3453. An entire convention center full of antiques to buy or just peek at.

Ocean City Factory Outlets, Route 50 and Golf Course Road, (800) 625-6696, www.ocfactoryoutlets.com. The last place you want to be while at the ocean is inside a big boring store shopping for clothes, right? OK fine, maybe that is indeed where you want to be.
