Darlington Independence Day, 5:30 p.m. June 25, (410) 836-3506. A parade steps off at the top of Main Street and marches to Francis Silver Park, where there is entertainment, food, and fireworks.
Bel Air Independence Day Celebration, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. July 4, Bel Air, (410) 893-4444. Start out with a pancake breakfast, then participate in contests such as horseshoe pitching, frog jumping, turtle racing, and watermelon eating. A parade and fireworks are planned too.
Children's Games Day and Ring-Jousting Tournament, Noon-5 p.m. July 16, Steppingstone Museum, Havre de Grace, (410) 939-2299. This day for the kiddies includes ice-cream-eating contests, sack races, turtle races, pony rides, frog-jumping contests, lawnmower races, storytelling, and face painting. Best of all, there is a ring-jousting tournament.
Darlington Blueberry Festival, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 22, Darlington, (410) 836-9761. If there is a fruit, then there is a festival for it. This one honors the blueberry, with fresh blueberries, blueberry baked goods, blueberry jams, and blueberry jellies. Crafts, flowers, and other produce are available too.

Mariner Point Park, Joppatowne, (410) 612-1608, (410) 612-1606. This 38-acre waterfront park offers picnicking, pavilions, playgrounds, trails, fishing, and boating.
Rocks State Park, 3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Road, Jarrettsville, (301) 557-7994. A popular feature of this day-use 850-acre park is a throne-like rock formation called the King and Queen Seats where, according to legend, Indian chieftains once sat in tribal council. Picnicking, hiking, tubing, fishing, and canoeing are also available.
Susquehanna State Park, Havre de Grace, (410) 557-7994. This state park offers fishing, boating, mountain-biking, horseback riding, bird watching, and picnicking. Kids can have fun on the playground.
