Concord Point Lighthouse, the foot of Lafayette Street, Havre de Grace, (410) 1498. One of the oldest lighthouses in continual use on the East Coast.

Fiore Winery, 3026 Whitehead Road, Pylesville, (410) 836-7605. Tour Harford County's first winery, picnic in the vineyards, and sample the assortment of vintage wines.

Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, 215 Giles St., Havre de Grace, (410) 939-3739, Located on the banks of the Susquehanna Flats, this museum is not a decoy, but it has lots of them.

Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, (410) 939-4800. The museum was established to preserve maritime heritage and lifestyle, as well as promote the ecology of the upper Chesapeake Bay region.

Ladew Topiary Gardens, 535 Jarrettsville Pike, Monkton, (410) 557-9570. Take a self-guided tour of these well-known topiary gardens.

Plumpton Park Zoo, 1416 Telegraph Road, Rising Sun, (410) 658-6850. More than 250 animals await, plus you can picnic or take a quiet stroll along the nature trail.

Ripken Museum, 8 Ripken Plaza, Aberdeen, (410) 273-2525, Aberdeen honors its first family of baseball.

Spring Valley Farm, 724 Conowingo Road, Conowingo, (410) 378-3280, Pick your own blueberries, cherries, peaches, and plums.

Susquehanna Museum of Havre de Grace, Erie and Conesteo streets, Havre de Grace, (410) 939-5780. This restored 1836 lockhouse on the Susquehanna River offers period rooms and a display of Havre de Grace history.

U.S. Army Ordnance Museum, Maryland and Aberdeen boulevards, Aberdeen Proving Ground, (410) 278-3602. Houses an extensive collection of combat vehicles, artillery, small arms, and ammunition. Don't miss the Tank Park.


Darlington Herb Festival, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 3, (410) 836-7764. Herbs, flowers, antiques, and floral crafts are all available as you enjoy the food, storytelling, and entertainment.

Scottish Festival, Noon-5 p.m. June 11, Steppingtone Museum, Havre de Grace, (410) 939-2299. Get out your kilts--this fest features bagpipes, storytelling, and Scottish food.

Maryland Wine Tasting, 7 p.m. June 22, Vandiver Inn, Havre de Grace, (800) 245-1655. This wine-and-cheese tasting benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Harford County.

Darlington Independence Day, 5:30 p.m. June 25, (410) 836-3506. A parade steps off at the top of Main Street and marches to Francis Silver Park, where there is entertainment, food, and fireworks.

Bel Air Independence Day Celebration, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. July 4, Bel Air, (410) 893-4444. Start out with a pancake breakfast, then participate in contests such as horseshoe pitching, frog jumping, turtle racing, and watermelon eating. A parade and fireworks are planned too.

Children's Games Day and Ring-Jousting Tournament, Noon-5 p.m. July 16, Steppingstone Museum, Havre de Grace, (410) 939-2299. This day for the kiddies includes ice-cream-eating contests, sack races, turtle races, pony rides, frog-jumping contests, lawnmower races, storytelling, and face painting. Best of all, there is a ring-jousting tournament.

Darlington Blueberry Festival, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 22, Darlington, (410) 836-9761. If there is a fruit, then there is a festival for it. This one honors the blueberry, with fresh blueberries, blueberry baked goods, blueberry jams, and blueberry jellies. Crafts, flowers, and other produce are available too.

Havre de Grace Seafood Festival, Aug. 12-13, Tidings Park, Havre de Grace, (410) 939-1525. This family event includes the Chesapeake Bay Crabcake Challenge, a crab-calling contest (yes, really), auctions, raffles, and continuous entertainment.

Gunpowder Falls State Park, 10815 Harford Road, Gel Arm, (301) 592-2897. Don't expect to see any waterfalls at this park--the name's nothing but a red herring. But you will see the Jerusalem Mill, the Jericho Bridge, the Ironworks, and the Monkton Train Station, and lots of lovely woodland.

Mariner Point Park, Joppatowne, (410) 612-1608, (410) 612-1606. This 38-acre waterfront park offers picnicking, pavilions, playgrounds, trails, fishing, and boating.

Rocks State Park, 3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Road, Jarrettsville, (301) 557-7994. A popular feature of this day-use 850-acre park is a throne-like rock formation called the King and Queen Seats where, according to legend, Indian chieftains once sat in tribal council. Picnicking, hiking, tubing, fishing, and canoeing are also available.

Susquehanna State Park, Havre de Grace, (410) 557-7994. This state park offers fishing, boating, mountain-biking, horseback riding, bird watching, and picnicking. Kids can have fun on the playground.
