This museum tells the stories of the unique experiences faced by people living in a "totally agriculture-based economy." When you rely on the weather to make a living, it's not always a sunshiny day. It doesn't have a pretty name, but the Choptank River has an interesting history. Find out where it fits into Maryland's story through a variety of exhibits.
Caroline Summerfest, Aug. 20-21, downtown Denton, (888) 786-3378, www.carolinesummerfest.com. There is no better time to check out Caroline County than at this outdoor celebration. Four stages of live music, a car show, fireworks, food, a canoe race, and kid activities makes this annual event worth repeating.

After they release the birds--quail, pheasants, chuckers, and mallards--and you knock them out of the sky, they clean them for you. But you'll have to clean your own damn camo. Martinak State Park, 137 Deep Shore Road, Denton, (410) 820-1668. So nearby, it'll be like camping in your own backyard--that is if your backyard was surrounded by the Choptank River and Watts Creek. The only time hot air is appealing is when it's keeping you afloat above the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. Take an hour-long sunrise ride over the Eastern Shore followed by a non-alcoholic champagne toast. Yum, non-alcoholic champagne.
