ATTRACTIONS
Cecil's Old Mill, Rte. 5, Great Mills, (301) 994-1510. The textile factory turned grist mill has been named a National Historic Landmark. Stop by the store for an assortment of crafts from over 20 artisans.
Piney Point Lighthouse Park and Museum, Lighthouse Road, Piney Point, (301) 769-2222. Enjoy the view from the waterfront pier at the park and check out the museum for information on the Potomac.
Sotterley Plantation, Rte. 245, Hollywood, (800) 681-0850, www.sotterley.com. This beautiful untouched attraction is another example of St. Mary's rich collection of National Historic Landmarks. Take a guided tour of the manor and the gardens, or a self-guided tour of the nature trail.
EVENTS
Maritime Heritage Festival, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 19, Historic St. Mary's City, (800) 762-1634. This celebration of boats of all sizes and purposes has lots on hand, including activities for the li'l skippers. Plus, Skipjack cruises for everyone on the river.
Potomac Jazz and Seafood Festival, July 10, St. Clements Island, Potomac River Museum, (301) 769-2222. The folks on the bay know the importance of experiencing live music on the water. Throw in some seafood, and you have a fantastic festival.
Tidewater Archaeological Days, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 31-Aug. 1, Historic St. Mary's City, (800) 762-1634. Get down and dirty with professional archaeologists discovering St. Mary's past. Free with museum admission.
Southern Maryland Soap Box Derby, 9 a.m. June 12, Fenwick St., Leonardtown, (301) 863-4314. Catch the derby that has been around since 1934. The winner represents Southern Maryland in the All-American in Akron, Ohio.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
AMA/Chevy 125/250 Motocross Pro National, June 20, Budd's Creek Road, Budd's Creek, (301) 994-9555, www.buddscreek.com. If ESPN2's 24-hour coverage is not enough for your motocross needs, then head down to Budd's Creek and get muddy on the field.
National Trails Day, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 5, (800) 762-1634. This fun-filled day begins around the 3-mile Historic Saint Mary's trail. Bird walk tours are given throughout the morning, and at 1 p.m., a plant walk tour. Body composition analysis and other health screenings are offered free of charge.
Wicomico Shores Golf Course, Rte. 234, Aviation and Country Club, (301) 884-3125. This St. Mary's County operated 18-hole public course is situated on the scenic Wicomico River that also boasts a 150-foot pier for your fishing and boating enjoyment.

Traditions of Loveville, Inc., 28420 Point Lookout Road, Loveville, (301) 475-8280. This home/lifestyle shop with the name that should be a rock band, is located in a historic Post Office building. It's also an interior-design consulting firm with access to hundreds of fabric, furniture, and glassware suppliers.
