Pemberton Historical Park, Pemberton Drive, Salisbury, (410) 548-4900, www.dnr.state.md.us/baylinks/27.html. One of the older parks in Maryland and a nice place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. Check out the museum if you have time.
Poplar Hill Mansion, 117 Elizabeth St., Newtown Historic District, Salisbury, (410) 749-1776. Old Federal-House style refinement that survived fires and the test of time to stand today as a vision into Maryland's past.
Salisbury Zoological Park, 755 S. Park Drive, Salisbury, (410) 548-3188, www.salisburyzoo.org. A free zoo with a noah's ark of animals.
Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, 909 S. Shumaker Drive, Salisbury, (410) 742-4988, www.wardmuseum.org. From red tailed hawks and bald eagles to snowy owls and wood ducks, you can find it all at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl art, a host of wildfowl wood carving.

Chesapeake Bay "Asthma Ride" Bike Tour, June 4-6, Eastern Shore, Salisbury University, (410) 560-2120, ext. 226. This is the grown-up, goal-oriented version of the carefree childhood tear around the neighborhood and through the woods. A 100-mile "Century Ride" to the Assateague Island beach and back, with 40- and 62.5-mile routes also available.
Fireworks Cruise, noon July 4, Wicomico River, Salisbury, (410) 543-1340. Enjoy a picnic dinner aboard the Bay Star and watch fireworks from the water on our nation's Independence Day.
Sharptown Firemen's Carnival, 7 p.m. Aug. 5-28, Routes 313 and 348, Sharptown, (410) 883-3131, www.shoreweb.com/sta14/carnival.htm. Delmarva's largest fireman's carnival that's been an annual attraction since 1926.
Sports Card and Collectible Charity Festival, June 19, Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, 64 Hobbs Road, Salisbury, (410) 219-3112. Don't miss this benefit event for the Ryan Long Memorial Scholarship and Children's Scholarship Funds. There will be sports cards, a collectibles show, a baseball clinic, autograph signings, a baseball game between the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Lakewood Blueclaws, fireworks, amusement rides, fire truck rides, safety awareness, silent auction, 50/50, door prizes, giveaways, and more.
Summer Country Craft and Shopper's Fair, June 12-13, Delmarva Convention Center, Delmar, (888) 288-5065. A free event with country crafts galore. Check out handmade carved furniture, food, and some of that charming stuff you can't find in any store.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
Delmarva Shorebirds, Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, 6400 Hobbs Road, Salisbury, (410) 219-3112, www.theshorebirds.com. This Orioles minor-league team plays all summer long, and though the stadium and the experience of a major league game won't be present, you can get that warm feeling that the players on this team and others in their league aren't highly paid athletes, they're just baseball players who love the game.
Nutters Crossing Golf Course, 30287 Southhampton Bridge Road, Salisbury, (410) 860-4653, www.nutterscrossing.com. Step up, tee off, watch it go, and plunk, sandtrap, or water hazard. The course is littered with them, but does have a nice colonial club house to kick it in after your game.

It's a neat little hobby to get into and the Chesapeake East Ceramic Studio is a great place to start. All sorts of pottery and even a claim to fame as one of their creations used in the movie Titanic.
