Best Coffee Bar
The Coffee Mill
36th and Chestnut aves., 243-1144; Belvedere Market, York Rd. and Belvedere Ave., 435-1808
The Coffee Mill had this category nailed from the moment we stepped into its tiny, charming Hampden shop and drew a breath. We inhaled the rich fragrance of fresh coffee beans from all over the globe, and we were helpless from that point forward. The Coffee Mill sells all the hits (French and Italian roast, Columbian, Kenya AA) and lots of mouth-watering java aimed at a cult audience (such as Chocolate Raspberry Truffle and a smooth, chicory-laden Louisiana blend). You can find the store dotted with about two dozen flavors of bean stored in burlap bags, ready to be ground, packaged, and taken home. The Coffee Mill also sells several varieties of exotic teas, chocolate floater squares to melt in your drink, and all the hot-beverage-making paraphernalia you’ll ever need.
